Seth Godin wrote a great piece on the problem of Sheepwalking, which he defines as,
“…the outcome of hiring people who have been raised to be obedient and giving them a braindead job and enough fear to keep them in line.”
One of the big disappointments in my life has been realizing that effective meritocracies are few and far between.
Quality doesn’t just float to the top, hard work is often brutally punished, and the workplace can get pretty grim at times. I’ve enjoyed a Rebellion or two in my time, but recently I’ve been inspired to go off and try to build a better workplace, which is where a lot of my time & energy has gone of late.
